Self-direction is a new service option for eligible Veterans, but is not new to us. We offer Veterans choice and control in our Veteran-Directed Home and Community Based Services (VD-HCBS) Program. VD-HCBS offers an option to Veterans in need of assistance at home.
Veterans enrolled in this program are awarded grant dollars and are able to determine what services will best meet their needs to keep them living in their own home. Some opt to hire people that they already know and trust; such as family, friends and neighbors. Others may choose to buy services and products from their communities that will help them live more independently at home. Whatever the decision, it remains the Veteran’s choice.
Current generation Veterans are seeking in home assistance through VA medical centers at an unprecedented rate, as the number of survivable, yet life-altering injuries has increased. Meanwhile, as WWII, Korea and Vietnam-era Veterans grow older, many find themselves requiring increased assistance at home. The need for services and support for Veterans at home is on the rise and now the option for Veterans to control and direct their services is available through our Veteran-Directed Home and Community Based Services Program.
This program gives respect, honor, dignity and choice to our Veterans.
Consumer Directions, in partnership with the Area Agency on Aging and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, is proud to serve and support our Veterans as a Financial Management Services (FMS) for the VD-HCBS Program.
